Decision:

That the honour of Freedom of the City be bestowed upon Lisa Potts GM in recognition of her exceptional bravery in saving children in the City of Wolverhampton and charity work.

Minutes:

The Leader of the Council, Councillor Ian Brookfield presented the report on Freedom of the City for approval. The report requested Council to bestow the honour of Freedom of the City to Lisa Potts GM in recognition of her exceptional bravery in saving children in the City of Wolverhampton and charity work.

 

Lisa Potts GM was a former nursery teacher who valiantly put herself in harms way to protect children in her care from a machete wielding attacker at St. Luke’s Primary School in Blakenhall in 1996. Lisa, was just 21 years old at the time and sustained severe injuries during the incident.

 

Lisa Potts GM continues to stay in contact with many of the children who were involved in the event in 1996.

 

The Leader of the Council proposed the recommendation, the Leader of the Opposition Group, Councillor Wendy Thompson seconded the recommendation and paid tribute to the bravery of Lisa Potts GM.

 

Resolved:

 

That the honour of Freedom of the City be bestowed upon Lisa Potts GM in recognition of her exceptional bravery in saving children in the City of Wolverhampton and charity work.

 

The Mayor, on behalf of the City Council, presented Lisa Potts GM with a badge and scroll to commemorate her appointment.  Honorary Freewoman Lisa Potts GM then gave an acceptance speech.
