Honorary Alderman

Councillor Brookfield, Chair of the Standards Committee, to move; the Mayor (Councillor Heap) to second:

 

That under Section 249(1) of the Local Government Act 1972, and in accordance with the revised policy approved by the Council on 28 July 2010, the Council does hereby confer upon Neville Anthony Patten the title of Honorary Alderman of the City of Wolverhampton in recognition of their eminent services to the City Council.

 

[Note: Section 249(1) of the Local Government Act 1972 provides that the Council may, by resolution passed by not less than two thirds of the Members voting thereon at a meeting specially convened for the purpose, confer the title of Honorary Alderman on persons who have, in the opinion of the Council, rendered eminent services to the Council, but who are not then Councillors of the Council.]

Minutes:

It was moved by Cllr Ian Brookfield and seconded by Cllr Heap:

 

“That under Section 249(1) of the Local Government Act 1972, and in accordance with the revised policy approved by the Council on 28 July 2010, the Council does hereby confer upon Neville Anthony Patten the title of Honorary Alderman of the City of Wolverhampton in recognition of his eminent services to the City Council.”

 

Councillors Lawrence, Thompson and Gwinnett paid tribute to the contribution to the work of the Council made by the former councillor Patten.

 

Resolved

That under Section 249(1) of the Local Government Act 1972, and in accordance with the revised policy approved by the Council on 28 July 2010, the Council does hereby confer upon Neville Anthony Patten the title of Honorary Alderman of the City of Wolverhampton in recognition of his eminent services to the City Council.

 

Mr Patten expressed his thanks for the confirmation of the title of Honorary Alderman.
