[To approve the Council’s Climate Commitment.]

That the Our Climate Commitment document be approved.

Councillor Steve Evans presented the Our Climate Commitment for approval. He advised that the report was due to be considered at Council in April 2020 but had been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He outlined progress made around Climate Change since the declaration of a Climate Emergency in July 2019.

Councillor Steve Evans highlighted the Council had reduced its carbon footprint by 45% to date and it was envisaged it would be reduced by a further 50% in the near future.

Councillor Steve Evans added that consultation had taken place on the Our Climate Commitment document with the Citizens Assembly in February 2020,  engaging with the public virtually using the hashtag  #OneGreenGov and collaborating with Sustainability West Midlands to develop the final document.

Councillor Steve Evans commended Councillor Barbara McGarrity as the Climate Change Champion for raising the awareness of climate change  and lead officers for their hard work. 

Councillor Steve Evans proposed the recommendation and Councillor John Reynolds seconded the recommendation and commended the work undertaken by the Head of Business Service and Project Manager (Climate Change) to progress this work. He wished both well in their new roles.  

The report was debated by Council.
